The apostrophe-spurning Times New Viking have precociously absorbed the lessons of English post-punk. Obvious points of reference include The Fall circa 1982, The Blue Orchids and Swell Maps, but in characteristically American style these influences are filtered through a prism of pop melodicism which references Pavement and wild cards like Smog and Pussy Galore.

Restless sonic chameleons the Fiery Furnaces revolve around the brother and sister duo of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger, whose prickly childhood relationship and musical family set the stage for their playful, unpredictable music. The Friedbergers’ grandmother was a musician and choir director at a Greek Orthodox church near the family’s home in Oak Park, IL; their mother, who had a penchant for Gilbert & Sullivan, played piano and guitar and sang; and throughout school, Matthew played standup bass.
A Tribute to Charles Gocher & Sun City Girls
Most dates will feature an opening 40 minute film of Charles Gocher’s video experiments followed by two sets of music. Alan Bishop and Richard Bishop will be performing Sun City Girls songs as an acoustic guitar duet.

The brothers Turner are masterful students of pop music seeing their influences casually shine in their art.
