When Sara Bertuldo started Honey & Darling in 2007, it was supposed to be a folk/pop duo, but her increasing distrust of acoustic guitars and her growing infatuation with electric guitars and the loud, divisive, and scary noises they make prompted her and Mathew Carroll (the second half of the duo) to turn Honey & Darling into a trio, one that would write songs with more detailed arrangements, louder climaxes, and more energetic structures. with the addition of Robert Little in 2009, Honey & Darling became the project that is reflected in their debut EP, What Became of What I Love. A few things any listener will know upon hearing the music: Honey & Darling are not an evil band. They are not out to get you (in the violent sense of the phrase). They are not metal, but they loved Anvil: The Story of Anvil, and Sara listens to Iron Maiden (sometimes). Ultimately, any listener will realize that Honey & Darling have only tried to write music that retains the pop sensibility of their favorite bands, groups whose influences are obvious, while creating songs that have freshness, depth, and excitement for their fans.
